Sherley Anne Williams Writing Residency with Robin Coste Lewis
Co-sponsored by the Black Studies Project and the New Writing Series
Join BSP and the New Writing Series in welcoming renowned poet Robin Coste Lewis to UCSD's campus. Robin Coste Lewis's residency marks the inaugural run of the Sherley Anne Williams Writing Residency. The residency was named in honor of the late UCSD professor and internationally acclaimed poet/novelist Sherley Anne Williams (1944-1999), who authored, among a number of publications, the novel Dessa Rose and a book of poems titled The Peacock Poems.
Robin Coste Lewis visits UCSD on the heels of her recent publication To the Realization of Perfect Helplessness, recently awarded the PEN/Voelcker Award for Poetry (2023). During this residency, Lewis will offer a keynote reading from her recent publication (May 17); engage undergraduates on experimental writing modes (May 18); and participate in a moderated discussion on her use of image, text, and archive, of which she has made special use in To the Realization of Perfect Helplessness (May 22).
