Beyond Arrivantcy: Black Indigeneities in Africa and the Diaspora
Scholars in the emerging field of Black Indigenous Studies have used the concept of “arrivantcy” to distinguish between the original inhabitants of the Americas and Africans who “arrived” through enslavement. In this talk, Boatema Boateng introduces a project in which she seeks to go beyond arrivantcy to consider how one might link Black indigeneities in the Americas with Black indigeneities in Africa. Questions and conversation will follow the presentation.
