The BSP is a collaborative of faculty & graduate students from across the UC San Diego campus, spanning the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM fields. We serve as a venue for groundbreaking research, scholar development, and community engagement in Black Studies that might not otherwise exist on UC San Diego’s campus. Unlike many universities, UC San Diego does not have an African American Studies or Black Studies department, leaving Black Studies scholars isolated in units across campus. We pride ourselves on nurturing and retaining Black Studies scholars across campus in a challenging national context that seeks to suspend and discredit their work.

• Graduate Student Research Awards Fund supports the Dayo Gore Dissertation Fellowship, Sara Clarke Kaplan Predoctoral Fellowship, and Graduate Student Research and Travel Grants.
• Faculty Research Awards Fund supports Faculty Fellowships, Faculty Research Grants, and Faculty Summer GSR Fellowship.
• BSP Student Employment Fund supports BSP Graduate Student Researcher and Undergraduate Administrative Assistant appointments.
• Undergraduate Awards Fund the Harriet Tubman Undergraduate Advocacy Awards.
• BSP Event (Co)Sponsorship Fund supports events that the BSP organizes and co-sponsors.
• BSP Discretionary Fund is the default, unrestricted fund supporting BSP activities, including essential needs, specific priorities, special projects, and operational demands.
