Activist in Residence

Jeffrey Alonzo Karahamuheto

Jeffrey Alonzo Karahamuheto is a Rwandan-American human rights activist, community organizer, educator and interdisciplinary artist. He is the co-founder of Hear us Here, a platform to highlight unfiltered, unapologetic, and unwound Black San Diegan voices with a variety of perspectives. He is also lead organizer of San Diego Organizing Project, a nonpartisan, multi-faith and spiritual network of 30+ congregations and communities across San Diego County that build local level leadership and civic engagement. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from University of California Merced, where he co-founded the African Student Union and served as ASUCM senator. He has previously worked with American Federation of Teachers, ACLU, Black Lives Matter, and many other grassroots organizations. When he’s not working with community members to create change, Jeff is cycling around town or eating way too much pizza.
